Lifestyle Photographer Ready to Work

I am currently taking photography assignments and using safety measures to protect against COVID-19 that include wearing a face mask, using a long lens, hand washing and working without assistants. I’m a wife and mom to three little girls, Claire 8, Mary Spencer 7, and Sadie 6 months, so photographing safely is a huge priority.

Two of my girls are in elementary school. So I’m now a teacher too!

What is homeschool like?

I sat for an IG Live interview with Wonderful Machine last week and we talked about everything from homeschooling to safety on the job. Here’s the link if you care to dive in more:

Side note, in the interview I mention using interns. They are receiving college credit and they are paid when budgeted into the project.

Transitioning from Retail to Commercial Photography

A feature was written on my two photography business; Captured by Kate Photography and Kate Thornton Photography by Wonderful Machine this past spring. Wonderful Machine is a worldwide production agency that clients find photographersfind stock photos, and produce photoshoots. I’m lucky enough to be one of the 600 photographers around the world that they represent and advocate for!

What I'm Listening To

Post-production for photo assignments requires hours in front of a commuter. While putting in this time, or sometimes while I’m cleaning the house or walking the neighborhood, I entertain myself by listening to podcasts. I’ve become a podcast conquer, and my tastes have evolved well beyond This American Life.

Here are a few of my favorites I hope you give them a try:

Goal Digger - business coach and social media influencer Jenna Kutcher shares how to grow traffic across multiple social media platforms.  She shares a lot of tips about email list building and Pinterest.

HerMoney with Jean Chatzky - financial advice and topics like investing wisely & how to launch your side gig.  Awesome celebrity interviews (i.e. Hoda Kotb & Gloria Steinem).

How I Built This - Guy Raz interviews successful entrepreneurs like Kate and Andy Spade, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, and Dyson’s founder James Dyson.  This is an enjoyable podcast for men & women.

NPR’s Fresh Air - Terry Gross is by far one of the best interviewers I have ever heard. Look for a recent interview with Charleston own Ranky Tanky featuring Quiana Parler, Quentin Baxterand Clay Ross

Uncivil - I actually took promotional photos for this podcast while they were recording in Charleston with Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers. This podcast asks modern questions about southern history. One of the hosts Jack Hitt is a Charleston native.

Homecoming - A fiction thriller starring Catherine Keener and David Schimmer. It’s like stepping back into the 1930’s and listening to a modern radio drama read by professional actors.

I’d love to know what you are listening to. Please drop me a line. I'm always looking for new podcasts.
